Ocean Purpose Project Becomes an Approved 1% for the Planet Impact Partner
Ocean Purpose Project joins forces with 1% for the Planet and thousands of businesses and environmental organizations worldwide taking collective action so our planet and future generations can thrive
SINGAPORE – 15 September 2026 – Ocean Purpose Project (OPP) today announced its official approval as an Impact Partner within the global 1% for the Planet network. This milestone positions the Singapore-based ocean conservation and circular blue economy social enterprise to partner directly with businesses worldwide seeking to invest in vetted, high-impact environmental solutions.

"1% for the Planet is rooted in the belief that every business, everywhere, has a responsibility to invest in solutions so our planet and future generations thrive. Our core work is to grow corporate support for the organizations delivering these critical environmental solutions so they can create even greater impact. We welcome Ocean Purpose Project into our global network of members and impact partners working together to create a thriving future."
— Kate Williams, CEO, 1% for the Planet
As an approved Impact Partner, Ocean Purpose Project is now eligible to receive contributions from 1% for the Planet Members—companies committed to directing at least 1% of their annual revenue, not profits, to verified environmental organizations. Since its founding in 2002, 1% for the Planet has certified more than US$870 million in environmental giving, creating one of the world's most trusted frameworks for corporate environmental philanthropy.

To ensure every contribution supports measurable environmental outcomes and meets evolving global compliance standards, all Impact Partners undergo 1% for the Planet's rigorous Certification & Vetting Standard, which evaluates organizations across three key pillars: Legal Accountability, Organizational Credibility and Solutions Alignment.
Ocean Purpose Project's successful approval reflects the organisation's commitment to delivering science-based, community-led environmental solutions across Southeast Asia.
Founded in Singapore in 2020, Ocean Purpose Project is a social enterprise dedicated to turning pollution into solutions. Its work integrates marine conservation, circular economy innovation, scientific research and community engagement through three core pillars:
Plastic-to-Hydrogen and Plastic-to-Fuel technologies, transforming difficult-to-recycle marine plastics into valuable clean energy and industrial products.
Seaweed and mussel bioremediation, improving coastal water quality while creating opportunities for regenerative agriculture and the circular bioeconomy.
Education, outreach and environmental stewardship, engaging communities, schools and businesses through beach clean-ups, citizen science and sustainability programmes.

Since its founding, Ocean Purpose Project has:
Removed more than 11 tonnes of marine plastic from Singapore's coastlines.
Deployed over 420 seaweed and mussel biofilter lines, helping naturally filter an estimated 14.7 million litres of seawater annually.
Planted 763 trees and restored coastal habitats.
Replanted more than 410 coral reef stars.
Engaged thousands of volunteers, corporate partners and students in environmental action across Singapore and Southeast Asia.
As a 1% for the Planet Impact Partner, Ocean Purpose Project can now collaborate more closely with businesses seeking credible, transparent and measurable environmental investment opportunities while accelerating solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

"Ocean Purpose Project exists to turn pollution into solutions by combining science, innovation and community action to restore our oceans and build a thriving circular blue economy. We have long admired how 1% for the Planet empowers businesses to create measurable environmental impact, and we are incredibly proud to become part of this global movement. This partnership enables us to build meaningful relationships with forward-thinking companies that recognise environmental investment is no longer optional—it is essential for building resilient communities, healthier oceans and a more sustainable future."
— Mathilda D'Silva, Founder & CEO, Ocean Purpose Project
