Mobilising a community that protects our oceans
project white sands
The town of Pasir Ris - meaning “White Sands” in Malay - is where Ocean Purpose Project (OPP) began in 2020, at the height of Covid-19. What started as sunrise beach cleanups grew into a thriving community of youth, seniors, schools, and industry leaders united to protect their shores.
Pasir Ris became our headquarters because we believe real change begins in our own backyard. Backed by the Pasir Ris Sustainable Action Group founded by MP Desmond Tan, Project White Sands was part of Pasir Ris Punggol GRC's Preserve the Environment pillar. While many initiatives faded, OPP remains the only one from that group still driving cleanups and engagement today.
Today, 2000 participants from age 7-70 take part in Project White Sands every year, driving long-term behaviour change beyond CSR and sustainability awareness, envouraging hands on solutioning.
Our roots in Pasir Ris
Ocean Purpose Project’s headquarters stand in Pasir Ris, Singapore- the very neighbourhood that shaped our founder's vision. We believe positive change starts at home, making these shores our launching pad for local and global impact.

our headquarters
and ocean event hub
Our Pasir Ris beach hub is Singapore’s first off-grid solar-powered beach office made of recycled F1 event materials, built by OPP staff and Pasir Ris residents.
Here, cleanups are just the beginning. The hub is a gathering space for organisations, schools and residents where we deepen awareness of ocean conservation while taking action together.

engaging government by the coast
OPP's mother and daughter team are active grassroots volunteers that consistently engage the community since 2020. Together with Pasir Ris Punggol MPs Minister Desmond Tan, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean who join cleans ups and MP Yeo Wan Ling who inaugurated our OPP Beach Hub, this beach hub is proudly supported by the inaugural SG Eco Fund in 2021 by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

environmental sustainability
education
Ocean conservation should not be restricted to academics. All of us have valued input to tackle ocean pollution and turn them into solutions.
Beyond science and cleanups, the hub is an eco-education platform. We conduct workshops, livestreams and community events to inspire creativity, environmental stewardship and a lifelong connection to the sea across all age groups.

Beach cleanups
Rally everyone for hands-on action to protect Singapore’s shores. Collect marine plastic and see how part of it is transformed into low-sulphur fuel and hydrogen in our Plastic-to-Fuel unit, creating the future of waste-to-energy.

Kayak cleanups
Paddle through mangroves and hidden waterways to remove floating debris. This unique experience combines adventure, environmental action and insight into the problem of marine pollution.

Seaweed eco gardening
Learn about the power of local seaweed species as natural bio-stimulants. Join us in our regenerative ocean-to-soil garden to harvest, compost and grow herbs used in Jamu, TCM and Ayurvedic traditions.

Plastic recycling hackathons
Turn waste into wonder. Take part in fast-paced design challenges where teams reimagine how plastic is made and innovatively reused, driving circular solutions.
Ocean art creation
We reimagine plastic as inspiration, sending collected plastics from our beach clean-ups to artist Wang Ruobin to transform into art pieces. Waste plastics were also turned into a “mini coral reef” installation for Ode to the Sea, a music, art and dance performance as part of Singapore International Festival of Arts.
Eco-Gardening sessions
An intergenerational programme designed for seniors, low-income families and corporate volunteers to learn about soil, ocean and human health, connecting wellbeing with nature.

Nasi lemak workshop
Immerse yourself in a cultural and culinary journey at our coastal hub. Explore the local heritage of Pasir Ris, learn about floating fish farms, and forage fresh herbs from our seaweed-fertilised herb garden. Cook and enjoy nasi lemak as you connect with both the richness of food and the environment that nurtures it.
Opportunity webinars
Interviews with industry leaders who start today to save tomorrow.
If you wish to inspire like minded-people like yourself, feel free to drop an email to creative@oceanpurposeproject.com to be a part of the OPPortunity Webinars.
