Our role in the eco-system
Ocean Purpose Project collaborates with a diverse mix of partners across the blue economy to restore coral reefs and drive sustainable change. We believe in the power of partnership and working together. Our 5 year Singapore x Indonesia joint coral reforestation with LivingSeas in Bali, partnering with Aderco has led to not just restored coral reefs. This dedicated collaboration has helped COVID struck dive sites, introduced larger sponsors, gained publicity for the partner while empowering local community.
We work with fish farmers from Singapore's Fish Farmers Association, Straits Seafood and Fishery Networks through bioremediation and seaweed innovation. We also funded repairs and solar panels for One Ocean Empire in Sabah to rebuild a storm damaged indigenous run dive school.
After all, a rising tide lifts all boats.
WHY REEF STARS
ARE NEEDED?
Coral reefs are damaged due to changing water temperatures, ocean acidification, pollution, invasive species, changing weather patterns, dynamite fishing, deep sea trawling and physical impacts from ship groundings and storms.
It is vital to restore the underwater forests of Bali and bring back coral reefs that provide coastal protection for communities, habitat for fish, and millions of dollars in recreation and tourism, among other benefits.

HOW does THE
'STARS' HELP?
Selection of resilient genotypes planted on to the artificial surface could improve restoration efficiency, create jobs for the Balinese dive industry nearly decimated by COVID-19 and, ensure that restored populations do not meet the same fate as their predecessors.

BENEFITS OF
CORAL RESTORATION
Increasing genetic diversity and thus the potential for adaptation, helping to prevent the extinction and loss of coral biodiversity assisting species migration to new locations, continuing to provide critical ecosystem services, and - providing tangible mechanisms for the people of East Bali to combat ecological damage.
