In the past month, our Ocean Purpose Project Eco-Gardening programme has empowered close to 150 seniors to reconnect with nature, spark joy and strengthen their wellbeing. From exploring medicinal herbs to discovering the role of seaweed in revitalising soil and ocean health, our participants are reminded that learning never stops.

Project SMILE, an active aging organisation in Singapore, shared that “hands-on activities such as digging, pruning and planting gave our seniors a sense of purpose and joy, while also promoting physical movement and mental engagement”. Many have since been inspired to start small herb gardens at home - a beautiful step towards healthy and sustainable living.

Ayurvedic practitioner Dharna Tiku echoed the deeper impact of this work, noting that “using seaweed as a natural fertiliser is phenomenal - it nourishes plants without chemicals, supports humanity overall and shows how OPP is contributing to sustainable global needs.”
Beyond the smiles and stories, the science is clear: seaweed-based biostimulants can increase crop yields by 15–30% [Source: Public Library of Science (PLOS)] improve soil structure and enhance water retention. They feed the soil microbiome naturally, reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers while making farming and gardening more resilient to climate change.

For our seniors, this means gaining firsthand knowledge of how growing tulsi, ginger or turmeric at home can boost their everyday health, while also sustaining the planet they are leaving behind for future generations. 🌱💚
As we honour SG60, we celebrate the wisdom of our silver generation and help them grow their knowledge for better health. By supporting this programme, you help us pay it forward, nurturing strong, purposeful and connected communities for Singapore and beyond.
We invite sponsors and aged care centres to join us in extending this impactful programme, to help us reach 1,000 seniors and cultivate sustainable, inclusive futures for all. Email partnerships@oceanpurposeproject.com to collaborate with us!
